Fast Gary takes Fastnet

The final round of this year’s Triton Showers National Rally Championship was the Fastnet Rally held in Bantry.

A long way from home for the plucky duo of Gary Mc Namee and John Mc Cabe who would contest the Junior section in their Honda Civic. With a number of 2nd places this year the team were hoping that this weekend would be theirs for the taking.

Standing in their way was an entry that showed class and pace in the form of a number of national championship regulars including current champion Cormac Phelan with Katja Auhl on the notes. Things were to come apart for the now outgoing champion after getting caught out on a treacherously slippery section and had a heavy off in the C2R2.

With one of the big players out of the game it was up to Mc Namee to set the pace taking a huge 10 seconds out of John O’Sullivan the current tarmac champion on the 2nd stage and through the ever changing conditions he and John Mc Cabe pushed onwards and upwards holding a start to finish lead and setting the fastest junior time on each and every stage during their devastating run of form which left their fellow juniors in shock and awe.

Crossing the finish at the Westlodge Hotel the pair were delighted but also satisfied that they had been able to prove their undoubted pace after a year of heart ache and technical issues with the car. The win secured 2nd overall in the junior championship and this would put them in fine form to take on the junior championship for 2016 and take the top spot come the end of the year with the added bonus of Cavan being a round next year.
